The University of Nicosia is looking to hire for multiple faculty positions (full-time and/or adjunct faculty) as part of the ongoing recruitment effort of UNIC in alignment with its strategic vision to build an Open Metaverse and disrupt the future of education. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates to join a fast-growing team, of researchers, and faculty members where you will be contributing towards the realization a very ambitious project on building the new generation of on-chain education.

The desired candidates should have qualifications enabling them to teach courses under the new MSc in Metaverse Systems degree and perform research on topics that relate to the Metaverse and the future of education.


Job Purpose

The desired candidates should have qualifications enabling them to teach courses under the new MSc in Metaverse Systems degree and perform research on topics that relate to the Metaverse and the future of education.


Main Accountabilities
  • Deliver courses in both seated and online formats.
  • Pursuing state-of-the-art research.
  • Working with project teams in research/hands-on projects, funded by the industry or the European Commission.
  • Publication of research findings in prestigious venues.
  • Participate to School’s activities, service to the University and community involvement.
  • Supervising students.
Topics
All disciplines related to the Metaverse, Web3 and decentralised systems are encouraged to apply: technology, business, finance, economics, design, architecture, social/ethical implications, regulation, policy, etc.
Indicative topics (additional/ related topics will also be considered):
  • NFTS and the Metaverse;
  • Web 3.0 architecture and digital assets;
  • Extended Reality;
  • Virtual and Augmented Reality Development;
  • Monetizing digital creativity;
  • Virtual world architectures;
  • Game Programming;
  • Smart Contract Programming;
  • Social, Legal and Ethical challenges in the Metaverse;
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. and evidence of teaching and/or research experience depending on seniority
  • The following (indicative) disciplines will be considered:

Computer science, cyber-physical systems, virtual reality (VR) augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR).

Design and Architecture

  • You have strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently, as well as, in a team.
  • (If you are applying for a technology-oriented theme) You must have adequate experience in programming (e.g., Python, Java or C++) and/or blockchain programming (e.g., Solidity).
  • You have professional work experience that justifies adequate knowledge of the subject matter (will be considered a plus).

  • Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and high-quality output.
  • You have excellent communication skills in English.

Who are we?

The Institute for the Future (IFF) is a cross-disciplinary research institute at UNIC, pursuing world-class research and education at the intersection of exponential technologies, including blockchain, artificial intelligence and augmented/virtual reality. IFF hosts more than 40 faculty, researchers, developers, and support staff from UNIC and partner institutions and, among other activities:

  • 2013: accepted BTC for tuition
  • 2014: world’s first full academic MSc program in blockchain education since 2014
  • 2021: launched UNIC Open Metaverse Initiative, a new comprehensive initiative focused on the academic, research and policy issues relating to the metaverse, with a particular emphasis on open public systems and standards

  • 2022: launched the first 100% on-chain university course "Introduction to NFTs and the Metaverse" co-led by Prof. George Giaglis and @punk6529
