Finance Officer - Research Finance Office

The University of Nicosia seeks a Finance Officer who will report to the Research Finance Manager and handle book-keeping for research projects, prepare monthly reconciliations, and assist in expense analysis and report submissions. The role includes supporting timesheet submissions, payroll, and payments, providing financial guidance to researchers, liaising with coordinators and partners, aiding in process improvements, and maintaining the archive database.


Responsibilities: 

  • Book-keeping of the University research projects including other affiliated research institutions;
  • Preparing monthly bank reconciliations and receivable/payable reconciliations;
  • Assisting in preparation of expense analysis and comparison against the approved project budget;
  • Assisting in the submission of interim and final project reports in accordance with agency requirements.
  • Assisting in the timesheet submission process, monthly payroll and payments;
  • Assisting researchers on project management and financial matters;
  • Liaising with coordinators, partners and the agency on various financial aspects of the project under the guidance of the Research Finance Manager;
  • Assisting the Research Finance Manager in various developments regarding processes and automations;
  • Maintaining the archive database.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or other similar qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer software (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel).

Required Skills:

  • Good  interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
  • Knowledge of English and Greek is essential.
  • Able to exercise good judgement and work independently
  • Able to work efficiently, accurately  and organized as part of a team
  • Able to exercise initiative and work under pressure as part of a team.

Job Specific Skills:

  • Knowledge of SAP accounting software will be considered an advantage
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in research finance, grant management, or similar related roles.
