The Department of Engineering at the University of Nicosia invites applications for full-time academic positions at the Lecturer and Assistant Professor levels (exceptional candidates at higher levels may also be considered) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The Department seeks high-calibre scholars with a demonstrated, evidence-based research record, strong teaching capability in English, and a proven capacity to attract research funding and lead competitive proposal development—particularly at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels.
While priority areas include Digital Twins, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence with applications to Engineering, Smart Infrastructure, Sustainable Energy Systems, and Computational Engineering, applications from outstanding candidates across all engineering disciplines will be considered.
Strategic Vision:
The Department is strengthening its research-intensive profile and expanding its international presence. Successful candidates are expected to contribute to the development of externally funded research programmes, interdisciplinary initiatives, and industry partnerships at national, European, and international levels.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Civil and Environmental Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from a recognised institution. Candidates holding a PhD in Applied Physics or Applied Mathematics will also be considered, provided they demonstrate a strong, sustained record of research and teaching in core engineering domains.
- Demonstrated, peer-reviewed research track record appropriate to rank.
- Evidence of research income generation and successful participation in competitive funding proposals (mandatory for Assistant and Associate Professor levels).
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in English; prior teaching experience in English-medium programmes is required.
- Capacity to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students and to contribute to curriculum development.
- Ability to operate independently while contributing to collaborative research and teaching environments.
Rank-Specific Expectations:
1. Assistant Professor:
- Evidence of high-quality publications and clear trajectory toward research leadership. Demonstrated participation in funded projects and strong potential for independent grant acquisition.
2. Associate Professor:
- Established international research profile with sustained publication record. Proven success in securing competitive research funding and leading research teams or work packages. Experience mentoring junior researchers and supervising doctoral candidates is expected.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including laboratory components where relevant.
- Developing externally funded research programmes and leading competitive grant applications.
- Publishing in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Supervising MSc and PhD students.
- Contributing to departmental administration and academic leadership activities.
- Engaging with industry and fostering knowledge transfer and innovation.
