Copy Editor Greek Language - UNIC

The University of Nicosia seeks one Greek Language Copy Editor (Part-Time) starting immediately to assist in the language editing process of journals published by the School of Law in the field of political, legal, and social sciences.


Works intensively and meticulously with colleagues and supervisors in order to secure the highest standards concerning the literary works of journals and magazines published by the School of Law, including the renowned Cyprological journal The Cyprus Review and the University of Nicosia Press.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Language editing and proofreading regarding literary works and projects, including scientific journal submissions
  • Regular feedback for colleagues and supervisors
  • Reviews and evaluates deliverables for content, grammar, style, and accuracy, as well as relevance to selected campaign
  • Works collaboratively in team environment to proactively resolve inaccuracies
  • Manages and updates assignments via internal project management platforms
  • Maintains schedule of deadlines for all deliverables
  • Ensures all projects are regularly tracked and communicated to the supervisors
  • Follows process, editorial, proofreading and copywriting documentations provided for the English Language
  • Follows style guidelines, as provided
  • Sets consistent standards for: clarity of expression, adherence to mandated guidelines, continuity of writing
  • Applies consistent standards for correct spelling, adherence to grammatical rules and adherence to backup copy
  • Edits, revises, and reviews copy in the English Language
  • Communicates any potential content issues to supervisors

Academic Qualifications:

  • Full proficiency and proven mastery in the Greek Language in both formal and scientific milieu.

Job specific skills:

  • 1-2 years agency experience, preferred
  • Excellent grammar and extensive copy-editing skills
  • Thorough knowledge of different referencing systems.
  • Professional experience in a deadline-driven environment
  • Proficiency with MS Word and relevant word processors
  • Working knowledge of HTML

Personal Qualifications:

  • Keen attention to detail with strong ability to identify inconsistencies and errors
  • Comprehensive understanding of language, grammar and style distinctions
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Capacity to process and manage copious amounts of information
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with a team and/or under close direction
  • Self-motivated, organized and accountable
  • Well-developed communication skills, including the ability to give and receive constructive feedback
